California Wage Garnishment Laws:

In California, your wages may be garnished after a creditor obtains a judgment against you in the court of law.  The creditor is allowed to garnish up to 25% of your net income or 40 multiplied by the current state minimum wage ($9.00).   The creditor has to choose which amount is less.  Therefore, you are guaranteed to receive $360.00 per week.  If you currently make less than $360.00 per week, then your wages cannot be legally garnished as a result of judgment.  Please note that there are different garnishment rules for taxes, child support, and student loans.
